Screens Built to Fit the Opening
Screen America makes and fits custom window screens for Acworth homes. We work out of Ball Ground, about half an hour north, and Cobb County has been part of our territory since 1997.
The word that matters here is custom. A hardware-store screen comes in a handful of stock sizes, and if your window is not one of them you get something that rattles, bows, or sits proud of the frame with a gap along one edge. We measure the opening, build the frame to that measurement, and fit it. That is the whole difference, and on an older house it is most of the job.
Why So Many Acworth Houses Need This at Once
Much of Acworth's housing went up between the late 1980s and the early 2000s, and the screens went in with it. Fiberglass mesh has a working life of roughly ten to fifteen years before ultraviolet light makes it brittle — press it with a thumb and it cracks rather than flexing.
That means an entire street tends to reach the same point at the same time, and it is why the request we get most often is not one screen but eleven. If several of yours have gone at once, nothing has gone wrong; they simply all went up in the same month.
What We Make
- Full replacement window screens. New frame, new mesh, measured to the opening. Single-hung, double-hung, casement, sliders and fixed openings.
- Rescreening an existing frame. If the frame is straight and the corners are sound, the frame is worth keeping and only the mesh and spline need replacing. Cheaper, and there is no reason to sell you a frame you do not need.
- Odd shapes. Arch tops, half-rounds, trapezoids over a stairwell and anything else that has no stock size. These are the ones people are told cannot be done.
- Door screens. Sliding patio screens that have jumped the track, and hinged screen doors that no longer close square.
- Porch and patio panels. Larger openings on a screened porch, which is the same work at a different scale.
Choosing the Mesh
Most people never get asked this and it changes both what you see and what it costs.
- Standard fibreglass. The default, and the right answer for most windows.
- Pet mesh. Considerably heavier. If a dog has already been through one screen it will go through its replacement, and this is the answer to that.
- Solar screen. Blocks a substantial share of the heat before it reaches the glass. Worth considering on west-facing windows that make a room unusable in July.
- Higher-clarity mesh. A finer weave that is noticeably easier to see through, which matters on a window you actually look out of rather than one you only open.
Frames come in charcoal, almond, bronze and mill aluminium, and we match what is already on the house rather than assuming white.
Getting a Number Without an Appointment
For screens we can usually quote from photographs, which saves you an appointment before you have even decided to go ahead. Send a photo of the window from a few feet back, one of the damage, and a rough width and height. Our contact form takes photos directly.
